WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team finished up day three of the Empire 8 championship meet at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday.
The Saxons hold fourth place with a total of 453 points.
AU opened the finals with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School),
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Seif Asaad (Cairo, Egypt/Stanford) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) combined for 1:34.16 as the A-team, giving the Saxons 34 points to begin. The B-team of
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institition),
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City),
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac) put together a time of 1:42.52.
Michael Blitzer (New York, NY/The Smith School) was the lone swimmer in the 200-yard butterfly, as he tallied 2:12.36 in the B-finals.
The Saxons delivered a standout performance in the 100-yard backstroke as Abdallatif won the event, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of second place. He also reset his own program record, lowering his previous mark of 48.81 to an impressive 48.71, also claiming the Empire 8 record. In the consolation,
Nino Barry-Negron (Syracuse, NY/Milton Hershey) clocked in at 1:03.76 while
Zeke Doerner (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) followed with 1:06.81 for a new personal best.
Elkady swam his new best of 58.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking sixth place. In the B-finals, Winkky was the first to touch in as he registered 1:00.29. Stojic was the second fastest with a time of 1:00.55.
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) clocked in at 1:01.25 while
Douglas Bryson (Bath, NY/Haverling) tallied 1:04.29.
On the diving board, two Saxons competed in the 1-meter competition.
Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) notched a final score of 446.95, taking fourth place, while Annlee tallied 305.55.
Alfred University closed out with a second-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5), Striker, Gonzalez and Abdallatif put together a time of 6:54.65 as the A-team. The B-team also finished second as Killian, Stojic,
Tucker Jones (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) and
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) clocked in at 7:22.50.
Alfred University will compete next in the time trials for prelims on Saturday, February 21 morning at 10:00am with finals set for later in the evening at 5:30pm.
