WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team finished third overall with 632 points as they ended the weekend of the Empire 8 championship competition at the Webster Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) continued his consistent dominance as he kicked off the finals by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle. Ayala finished a full seven seconds ahead of second place, recording 16:19.62 as the fourth fastest time in program history, right behind his own personal best.
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Instituion) notched sixth place with a time of 17:11.30 while
Michael Blitzer (New York,NY/The Smith School) touched in at 19:24.66 for 12
th.
In the B-finals of the 100-yard freestyle,
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) posted 48.02 for second place.
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) also competed in the event, registering 48.39.
The Saxons witnessed history being broken in the 200-yard backstroke by
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School), breaking his previous program record of 1:50.32. Abdallatif won the event with a time 1:50.29.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Alfred Univeristy's name was all over the event as seven Saxons competed.
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) led the way as he finished first for AU in second place. Gonzalez delivered a time of 2:03.18 to replace his second all-time ranked personal best of 2:04.42.
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City) finished in at 2:08.77 for fifth place, while
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac) registered 2:14.63 in seventh place.
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was the top finisher of the consolation, delivering a time of 2:18.86.
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) recorded 2:19.03 as the second fastest.
Douglas Bryson (Bath, NY/Haverling) and
Lungile Raditladi (Gaborone, Botswana Enko Botho) finished in succession, touching in at 2:18.15 and 2:31.45, respectively.
AU saw an impressive performance from the A-team in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as they posted a second-place finish. Abdallatif, Ayala, Drappatz and Striker put together a time of 3:08.40. The B-team took third in their respective event.
Seif Asaad (Cairo, Egypt/Stanford), Winkky, Stojic and Gonzalez combined for 3:19.48.
