Six-Time National Champion Howard Seidman to be Inducted in CSCAA Division III Hall of Fame Class of 2026

CHICAGO, IL – The most decorated student-athlete in Alfred University athletic history, Howard Seidman '84, will be inducted into the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III Hall of Fame Class of 2026 on May 4 at Joe's Live Rosemont.

Seidman, a member of the Saxon men's swimming & diving program, won six national championship titles between the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races. In his junior season, Seidman broke the NCAA Division III records in both events and then rebroke them in his senior year of 1984. The records stood for over 20 years.

Seidman became Alfred University's second National Champion in 1982 when he won both breaststroke events, joining Wilbur Getz '29 who won the outdoor mile in 1929. Seidman is the only Saxon to win multiple National Championship titles. Valerie (Thompson) Dobson '84 joined Seidman as National Champion in their junior years, winning the 100-meter hurdles with a school record time in 1983. Glenn Clinton '97 rounded out the list of AU National Champions, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 1994.

Seidman was undefeated in the breaststroke in his last three seasons of being a Saxon, helping AU compile a dual meet record of 49-9. Two of the Saxons' three undefeated seasons in school history occurred with him on the roster in 1982-83 and 1983-84.
