GENEVA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team defeated Hobart College on Friday evening, 226-46 on the road.
"We were able to move some things around and give some swimmers opportunities to get into some different events especially after three meets last week," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "It was fun to see some of these guys do some off events and give some others a chance to shine. It was pretty impressive that in even that, we broke several pool records!"
The Saxons scored double-digit points in every event except the 3-meter as
Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was the only Saxon competing, winning the event for nine team points. He recorded a score of 225.30. The victories in the 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley were all pool records.
The Saxons began the evening with a clean sweep of the 200-yard medley relay. The A-team of
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School),
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Seif Asaad (Cairo, Egypt/Stanford) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) won the event with a time of 1:37.17 to break the pool record. The B-team of
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution),
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City),
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) clocked a time of 1:42.93 for second place. Although both the C-team and D-team's finishes were listed as exhibitioned races, they still put up better times than the Statesmen's two teams.
Diego Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Simon Bolivar),
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac),
Zeke Doerner (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Tucker Jones (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) combined for a time of 1:48.06. The D-team of
Dillan Allyn-Nobles (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison),
Douglas Bryson (Bath, NY/Haverling),
Michael Blitzer (New York, NY/The Smith School) and
Nino Patrick Barry-Negron (Syracuse, NY/Milton Hershey) swam a 1:54.25. Hobart's top time in the event was a 1:54.32.
Monroy, Killian and Striker swept the 1,000-yard freestyle. Monroy swam a 10:55.74 while Killian had a time of 11:11.65 and Striker swam an 11:19.62. Stojic and
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) went 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle, posting times of 1:52.15 and 1:54.15, respectively.
Abdallatif recorded his second pool record of the night when he won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.28. He was followed by Doerner in second place with a time of 1:07.50. Ayala and Elkady then took the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 59.94 and 1:00.30, respectively. The same happened in the 200-yard butterfly as Gonzalez won it with a time of 2:04.63 and Killian took second with a time of 2:23.70.
AU went 1-2-3 in the 50-yard freestyle. Abdallatif won the event with a time of 21.54 while Drappatz took second with a 22.58 and Asaad finished with a time of 23.65. Asaad went on to lead the 1-2-3 finish in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 51.29 while Drappatz clocked a 53.20 and Barry-Negron reached the wall in 55.08.
Gonzalez won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.30 with Monroy earning second place with a time of 2:15.73. Stojic won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.09. Striker and Jones took first and second in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:15.84 and 5:46.01, respectively.
The Saxons swept the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly as Winkky won it with a time of 56.49. He was followed by a time of 58.49 from Doerner and a 1:01.12 from Blitzer. McQuaid and
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) swept the 1-meter diving event with McQuaid posting a winning score of 228.50 and Annlee scored a 153.30.
Alfred University ended the night with back-to-back sweeps of the final two events. Ayala swam a 1:58.37 in the 200-yard individual medley for the pool record and was followed by Killian and Winkky, posting times of 2:15.21 and 2:16.08. The 200-yard freestyle relay A-team of Drappatz, Ayala, Abdallatif and Striker won with a time of 1:29.30. They were followed by the B-team of Asaad, Barry-Negron, Doerner and Annlee with a time of 1:36.17. Although the C-team didn't score points through exhibition, the group of Jones, Bryson, Allyn-Nobles and
Lungile Raditladi (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho) posted a time of 1:41.69, over five seconds faster than the top team of the Statesman.
The Saxons will next travel to Fredonia for a tri-meet with the hosts and University of Rochester on Saturday, November 8 at 11:00am.
