ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team took care of business after the winter break with a big 200-79 win over Nazareth.
14 first-place finishes led the way to eclipse the 200-point mark. Five wins alone came at the hands of LaMastus brothers, with William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) taking four of them and Wade LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) taking home the other.
"They have been working on both technique and intensive training," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "We have set ourselves up well for the final stretch of the season."
Will LaMastus won in the 100-backstroke (54.67), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.84), the 200-IM (2:04.60), and the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.22). Wade would join him in the medley relay, while part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay squad with Alexander Villegas (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area), and Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's).
Joining the LaMastus brothers on the winning-medley relay squad were Tucker Jones (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) and Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads). They were followed behind by Alfred University's B-team, who beat out Nazareth's A-team. The four who completed the feat in 1:42.24 were Ryaan Adnan Ali Rana (Springfield, VA/Karachi Grammar School), Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), and the aforementioned Terrazas.
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) had himself a career day in his first collegiate year, winning two races. His most impressive performance of the day came in the 1000-yard freestyle, where he won by over a minute over second place with a time of 10:25.63. He also took gold in the 500-free at 5:05.04.
Terrazas won both the 100 and 200-fly at 55.80 and 2:05.63 respectively while Winkky won the 100-breaststroke with a 1:04.43,
Drappatz added a 100-free win to his portfolio with a time of 50.64, and Tuttle won his 200-yard backstroke race in 2:07.76. Finally in the diving area, Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) took home two wins. His most impressive was in the one-meter dive, where he recorded the eighth-best score in school history with a 240.95.
The Saxons will look to carry this momentum forward when they host Geneseo on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
