ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY/Williamson) was named the Empire 8 Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Eaton totaled three goals on the week as the Saxons went 1-0-1 with both matches being Empire 8 showdowns. He initially scored the first goal of the week and the game in what would go down as a 1-1 tie with Nazareth University. His goal was after a Naz penalty as
Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho) kicked the set piece from 50 yards out to
William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay), who was standing on the football goal line, about 20 yards away from the goal on the far side, heading it to the far corner of the goal where Eaton ran and headed it in on Wednesday evening. On Saturday, in a road match at Houghton University,
Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) scored the first goal of the game to earn the game-winning accolade. Eaton tacked on an insurance goal just 18 minutes later off a corner kick from
Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy), settling the ball and chipping it into the goal. He then scored the Saxons' third goal during the 71
st minute of play off a backwards pass from Bowman, firing it from 10 yards out. All three of his shots on goal were goals as he fired a total of four shots on the week.
Eaton was joined by three Saxons in the weekly honors as the Saxon football team swept the weekly listing.
Alexander Coffey (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) was named the Offensive Player of the Week,
Adam Mietz (Akron, NY/Akron) was the Defensive Player of the Week and
Dion Anderson (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) was Special Teams Player of the Week.
