KEUKA PARK, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team took home a commanding 4-1 win over Keuka College on Saturday afternoon to clinch their spot in the Empire 8 Playoffs.
"The guys showed a ton of fight today," Head Coach Garret Eldridge said. "I'm really proud of how hard we worked to get a win on the road."
The Saxons (7-3-2, 5-2-2 Empire 8) got the early advantage thanks to Landon Berry (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) scoring in a second straight game in the 15th minute. However, Keuka would equalize just five minutes later.
AU put up four shots in the first half compared to two shots from Keuka (1-12-1, 0-9 Empire 8), and had to respond in the second half. Respond they did, with six shots in the 45 minutes, and ending the match with seven shots on frame.
They would also take advantage with three goals in just over 15 minutes to pull ahead. Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) would put a volley into the back of the net in the 64th minute, the eventual game-winning goal.
The visitors would add on thanks to Berry's second goal of the game, with Dennis Hayes V (Ferndale, MI/Berkley) notching the assist in the 71st minute. In the 80th minute, the eagle would fly with Jackson Eagle Jantas (Metuchen, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) finding the back of the net for the fourth behind a Juanjo Menendez Gutierrez (Villanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) assist.
Alfred University will host their final home Empire 8 conference game against Elmira College on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Yunevich Stadium.
