SELINSGROVE, PA – The Alfred University women's track & field team competed in the Jim Taylor Invitational, hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.
"The women did great today and I think a big part of that was they kept their spirits high and stayed positive," Assistant Coach
Chris Boswell said. "It was a very busy day for the Saxons as a lot of athletes had events stacked one right after the other and especially Mari (Jablonski) who competed in BOTH the 10K and 5K. Their tenacity and determination really shined through today as the weather never was consistent in cooperating with us. We kept our energy up despite this and I know there are going to many milestones hit en route to E8's."
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) had the top finish of the day as she won the high jump with a clearance of 1.57m (5'-1.75") on her third attempt at the height. She nearly cleared 1.60m (5'-3") in her ensuing set of jumps. Durso tacked on a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.35. Earlier in the day, she made finals in the shot put to finish ninth with a distance of 8.78m (28'-9.75").
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) had the next best finish as she took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.81. She also competed in the long jump that resulted in her finishing fifth with a distance of 4.85m (15'-11").
Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County) had quite literally the longest day within the Saxon ranks, running a total of 15,000 meters. First, she competed in the 10K in the morning, finishing fourth with a time of 43:17.87. Then, she took sixth in the 5K with a time of 21:57.95.
Briana Dorr (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) also claimed a fifth-place finish as she threw 9.49m (31'-1.75") in the shot put.
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.82 and eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.60. She teamed with
Sarah Lutkins (Union Springs, NY/Union Springs), McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and
Octavia Fred (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) in the 4x400-meter relay to finish sixth with a time of 4:38.47. Lutkins also took seventh in the open 400-meters, running a time of 1:08.26.
Shansanique Pollack (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) neared a Top-9 finish as she hit 25.03m (82'-1") in the discus throw to finish 10
th.
The Saxons will next compete at Messiah University for a multi and full-meet invitational on Thursday, April 11 until Saturday, April 13.
