BROCKPORT, NY – Alfred University's
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne) not only won the women's 600-meter dash on Saturday, but also broke the SUNY Brockport Invitational meet record while falling just short of the all-time Alfred University school record.
Gilbert tied for the ninth fastest time in Division III during the 2024 indoor season with her time of 1:38.44. Her new time topped her previous personal best time of 1:41.55 as she was just 0.44 seconds away from tying the school record of 1:38.00. The record, set by Amy Tuttle in 1976 is the oldest AU women's track & field record (both indoor and outdoor) that stands. Gilbert defeated the rest of the 16-runner field by almost an entire three seconds or more.
Her win gave AU 10 points towards their 13.5-point total as the Saxons finished 11
th out of 14 teams on Saturday. The remaining 3.5 points came from
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) as she tied for fifth place in the high jump with a height of 1.44m (4'-8.75"). Durso cleared the height on her second attempt.
McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) neared a Top-10 finish with her time of 5:33.23 in the mile, claiming 13
th as she smashes her season best time of 5:45.40.
The Saxons will next set their sights in two directions next week, as members of the team will go to either Staten Island, NY for the Fast Track Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex or will return to RIT for a closer-to-home meet. Both events are on Friday, February 9.
