ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team wrapped up the regular season portion of its indoor schedule with a Conference Tune-Up Meet, hosted by Nazareth University on Friday evening.
 
The Saxons had strong performances from both the track and field events. Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) had the top performance with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash, missing the win by 0.87 seconds as she clocked a 1:00.90 in her first attempt of the event this season, missing All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field (AARTFC) Indoor Championship standards by 0.40 seconds. She now has the fourth-fastest time in the 400-meters within the Empire 8 as championships loom around the corner.
 
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) also was in the Top-3 in one of her events, adding a Top-10 finish in another. She took third in the long jump with a distance of 5.37m (17'-7.5"), reaching that distance on her second attempt in finals. She also ran a time of 27.32 in the 200-meter dash to finish seventh for AU. Her 200-meter time was her personal best.
 
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville) took fifth in the pentathlon with 2,401 points, making it a new personal best as she hit not one, not two but three other PR's in the five areas of the event. She hit career-highs in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and 800-meter run (winning the 800-meter run).
 
The Saxons will next turn their sights toward the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Houghton University on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24. Friday's events start at 4:00pm and Saturday's will begin at 10:00am.
