Roman Wins E8 In 100-Yard Butterfly As Saxons Head Into Final Day Of Championships

WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team moved up a position to fifth place overall after Day Three of the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday evening. 

The Saxons remained in third place in Empire 8 standings with a total of 351 points. 

Kamila Roman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) finished second overall and first in the Empire 8 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.18. This made her the Empire 8 Champion in the event and an All-Empire 8 First Team honor. 

Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville) and Liv Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) both qualified for A-finals in the 400-yard IM. Derry came in with a seventh place finish with a time of 5:01.80 and Richeda finished tenth with a time of 5:24.79.

Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) qualified for A-finals in the 100-yard butterfly and came in sixth place with a time of 1:03.59. Eden Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Macie Francisco (Vestal, NY/Vestal) both qualified for B-finals in the 100-yard butterfly as well.

Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) won B-finals in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.46. Shelby Baker (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo Central) also qualified for B-finals. 

Derry won B-finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.18.  Erika Purdy (Syracuse, NY/Cicero North), Anna Muscatiello (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville), and Vallely also all qualified for B-finals.

Mariam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy) qualified for B-finals and finished 15th overall with a time of 1:06.99 in the 100-yard backstroke. 

The A-Finals 400-yard medley relay team of Roman, Spencer, Anderson, and Derry finished fifth with a time of 4:18.68.

The B-Finals 400-yard medley relay team of Maddie Sauro (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Richeda, Vallely, and Baker added 12 points to the A-teams 36 points with a time of 4:42.66.

AU will compete in time trials to start individual pool events tomorrow morning at 10:00am with finals slated to start later in the evening at 5:00pm as they face the final day of the Allegheny Empire Swimming & Diving Championships.
