WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team remained in sixth place overall after Day Two of the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday evening.
The Saxons also remained in third place in Empire 8 standings with a total of 173 points.
The first points of the day were claimed by Erika Purdy (Syracuse, NY/Cicero North) as she qualified for B-finals and finished 16th overall with a time of 5:54.75 earning 5 points for the Saxons.
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) made A-finals in the 200-yard IM and placed 9th with a time of 2:19.27 earning 14 points.
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) earned an All-Empire 8 Second team recognition in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 25.54 was good for 5th overall, 2nd in E8, and 18 points to add onto the Saxons total.
Finally, the team of Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville), Eden Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Anderson, and Spencer qualified for A-finals and finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.47, adding 34 points. The B-team of Mariam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy), Liv Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), Gaia McCune (Pittsburgh, PA/Moon Area), and Purdy also were able to tack on 12 more points to close out the day.
AU will compete in time trials to start individual pool events tomorrow morning at 10:00am with finals slated to start later in the evening at 5:00pm as they face Day Three of the Allegheny Empire Swimming & Diving Championships.
