Saxons Win Two Races in Split Against Rochester and Fredonia

ROCHESTER, NY -- Alfred University's Men's Swimming and Diving team would fall to the University of Rochester, but beat the Fredonia Blue Devils in their tri-meet Saturday afternoon.

"I think there were a lot of close races today," graduate assistant Andrew Parr said. "As a collective team, excitement and anticipation for the rest of the season is very high. I am excited to see what we accomplish next weekend at Pitt-Bradford."

The two wins on the afternoon would come from Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) and Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront). Killian pulled away at the end of the 200-yard Butterfly, wrapping up a 2:15.14. He also came home second in the 1000-yard Freestyle with a 10:44.77.

He also wrapped up three second-place finishes in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a personal best 58.45, and in the 500-yard Freestyle with a 4:57.31, edging ahead of the third-place finisher by .28 seconds. He also was on the 200-yard Medley Relay team which came home second to open the meet for the men.

Alongside Gonzalez in the relay was William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's), and Alexander Villegas (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads). Villegas also recorded a personal best in the 100-yard Freestyle with a 50.28. Noah Koltenuk (Danville, PA/Danville Area) also got his own personal best in the 200-yard Butterfly, finishing second with a time of 2:17.75.

Aside from his second-place run in the medley relay, LaMastus would get on the podium in three other events. These included second in the 200-yard Backstroke (2:01.58), second in the 100-yard Butterfly (54:35), and third in the 100-yard Backstroke (54.15). Terrazas was in the same boat as LaMastus with a second in the 200-yard Breaststroke behind Gonzalez with a personal-best 2:13.87, second in the 200-IM at 2:00.58, and third in the 100-yard Breaststroke with another personal-best 1:00.59.

Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) was the final Saxon swimmer to get on the podium with a third in the 100-yard Freestyle at 50.48, another personal best. In the diving pool, Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) also set personal bests in both competitions. He finished second in the 1-meter dive with 254.70 points. He was in the thick of it in the 3-meter dive competition, finishing just one point shy of second with 235.65 points.
