BRADFORD, PA – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team won all but two events at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons defeated the Panthers, 154-47 while sweeping nine events. "Usually on the road in mid-November, I have certain expectations on the results we would see at an away meet," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "We have had mixed results at Bradford over the years. I was very impressed with how well we swam today! The meet was highlighted with several pool records, two for Carlos and one on our women's side. We had some great finishes and some solid races. It is great to head home knowing that some of the things we are working on in practices are yielding results. We plan to put in some more work over the next couple weeks as we prepare for the Ithaca invitational in December."
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) broke pool records in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:04.43 as well as the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 1:54.79. Gonzalez then picked up his third and final win of the day by teaming with
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's), Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) and
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They combined for a time of 1:30.87.
Tuttle was the only other Saxon to pick up three wins on the day alongside Gonzalez. He started the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, being joined by
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) and
Alex Villegas (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) for a combined time of 1:38.59. Tuttle's individual win came in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.88.
Lagos, as well as Drappatz and Terrazas each won two events on the day.
The Saxons will next compete in a three-day meet at Ithaca College, starting on Friday, December 6 at 5:00pm.
