Women's Swimming Beat Out by William Smith College

ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University's Women's Swimming and Diving program dropped its third meet of the season 169-121 to the visiting William Smith College.

"Being on the wrong side of the score is a little bit disappointing, however, we swam a great meet," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "Their times continue to impress me. I'm really excited about the work we're putting in and the results that we are seeing."

Two Saxon swimmers took home four race victories. Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) was part the winning 200-Yard Medley Relay squad at 1:58.59, finished seven seconds ahead of second place in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a 1:02.97. She was 12 seconds ahead in the 200-yard Backstroke clocking in a 2:14.09, the third-fastest time in school history. Finally, she was 11 seconds ahead of second in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a 5:35.66.

The second four-time winner was Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor). She was part of the 200-Yard Medley Relay, tied her personal best in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a 25.58, and wrapped up first in the 100-Yard Butterfly clocking in a 1:02.85. Finally, she finished up six seconds ahead of the next closest finisher in the 100-Yard Freestyle at 56.37.

Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville) tacked on two wins herself in the 200-Medley Relay, and in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a 2:11.99. Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) was the final winning member of the 200-Medley Relay, and was second in both the 100 and 200-Yard Breaststroke with a 1:15.63 and 2:48.64 respectively.

Mariam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy) wrapped up second in the 100-Yard Backstroke behind Share at 1:09.17, and was third in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Two other third-place finishers for the Saxons were Eden Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, and two third-place finishes for Liv Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) in the 500-Yard Freestyle, and in the 1000-Yard Freestyle where she finished four seconds faster than her previous best time with a 12:44.39.

Next up for the women's swim team is the Rochester Tri-Meet against the University of Rochester and Fredonia. The action gets started at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 9.
