Alfred University Splits Dual Meet at McLane Natatorium

ALFRED, NY -- The Women's Swimming and Diving team for Alfred University split its home dual meet, falling to SUNY Brockport 158-75, but defeating Alfred State 112-99.

"Considering the week we had with our training, our divers continue to improve and we were able to pull off a win against Alfred State," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "Despite the score, I thought we gave Brockport a pretty good run we had some close races there. Knowing the work we're putting in now, I'm excited to see how they respond when we see them in a few months."

Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY Palmyra-Macedon) continued the great start to her collegiate career with a pair of first place finishes. She recorded the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard Backstroke with a 1:01.02, three seconds faster than second place. Share was six seconds faster than the next-closest competitor in the 200-yard Freestyle, clocking in a 2:02.90.

Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville) collected the only other win for the Saxons on Saturday afternoon, finishing first in the 200-yard IM with a 2:25.38. Both Derry and Share were also part of the second-place finishing 200-yard Medley Relay team for Alfred University, which finished with a time of 1:56.77.

Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) was also part of the 200-yard Medley team, and finished second in the 100-yard Freestyle at 57.05. She also wrapped up third place in a competitive 50-yard Freestyle with a 25.93.

The fourth member of the 200-yard Medley team was Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area), who also tacked on two third-place finishes to her record. In the 100-yard Butterfly, she finished with a 1:09.35, and wrapped up a time of 1:17.24 in the 100-yard Breaststroke, edging ahead of Derry by .2 seconds. Ruby Kavanaugh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) also added on with a second place finish in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 147.68.

Another home meet is on deck on Friday, November 1 against William Smith College. It all gets started at 5:00 pm.
