ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne) was named one of the Empire 8 Women's Track & Field Co-Track Athletes of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Gilbert earned her second indoor school record (third overall for track & field) as she won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:05.89. Her time beat the rest of the field, including runners from Division I St. Bonaventure University, Division II Daemen College and soon-to-be Empire 8 competitors, SUNY Brockport. She bested the field by almost a complete six seconds or more. Gilbert's new career-best time replaced the time of 3:06.55, set in 2003 by
Millicent Boadi '03. Her time for the race was also the 11
th fastest in Division III for the week as she is near the Top-25 for the year.
Gilbert ended her day by teaming with
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity), Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville) and
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing just shy of second place with a time of 4:24.94.
She was joined by
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) as the Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week and
Natalee Collins (Waterville, NY/Waterville) as the Empire 8 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. Gilbert and LaMastus were also named Saxons of the Week.
