ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team fell to Nazareth University by a score of 184-104 on Friday, January 12th.
The Saxons (2-4, 0-1 Empire 8) returned to action after a 6-week winter break and training on the team's recent trip to Florida.
"It was great to get back into competition after a six week hiatus." Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "After a break at home and then two weeks of intense training, I was excited to see that we did as well as we did; we have been working hard and I figured we would be a little sluggish, but we were ready to race and dive. Nazareth, having a short course meter pool may have been a good thing out of our training trip, it pushed our focus to racing, as opposed to comparing our times and overthinking things. The work the divers did over the last two weeks also showed on the boards."
The first points of the day were claimed by a second place finish in the 200 SC medley relay by Kamila Roman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck), Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central), Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor), and Mariam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy) with a time of 2:14.93.
Mia Spencer won the 200 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:23.67. She also won the 200 SC Meter IM with a time of 2:42.29.
Mariam Kiragu finished second in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:18.70.
Kamila Roman picked up a win in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 2:49.38. She also won the 100 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:11.42.
Sarah Anderson won the 50 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 29.44. She also won the 100 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:04.32.
