ALFRED, NY – For the second week in a row,
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) earned Empire 8 Women's Field Athlete of the Week, as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro on Monday.
Spila competed in her hometown of Mechanicsburg, PA on Thursday and Friday during the multis portion of the Messiah University Invitational. Her biggest takeaway from her homecoming meet was the breaking of the Alfred University women's outdoor heptathlon record. She finished sixth overall with a score of 3,766 points, surpassing teammate,
Ana Ion's (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) 2021 record of 3,745 points. Her top two events were the 200-meter dash, scoring 684 points with her time of 27.34 and the 100-meter hurdles, scoring 619 points with her time of 16.80. Spila scored 588 points with her height of 1.47m (4'-9.75") in the high jump, 570 points in the long jump with a vault of 5.04m (16'-6.5"), 541 points in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.84, 443 points in the shot put with a toss of 8.67m (28'-5.5") and finally, 321 points in the javelin, reaching 21.72m (71'-3").
She was named a Saxon of the Week as well on Monday, joined by softball's
Mya Wells (San Ramon, CA/California) and men's lacrosse's
Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling). Spila and the Saxons will next compete at the University of Rochester on Saturday, April 22.
