ALFRED, NY – Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) was named as the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
 
Monday's selection was the first of Matson's career. He is one of three AU players to receive Empire 8 weekly honors in the early stages of the 2023 season, with Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) and Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) sweeping the awards list last week.
 
Matson had a successful week with Alfred University, totaling 10 points from eight goals and two assists across two games. Matson additionally picked up eight ground balls and caused one turnover. In a home win against Westminster, Matson matched his career-high with five goals from 11 shots on goal.  Against Skidmore on Sunday, Matson finished the afternoon with three goals from eight shots on goal.
 
Alfred University will next travel to Sparks, Maryland to compete against Emmanuel College (MA) on Wednesday at 1:00 PM.
