Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) of Alfred University was named one of the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Co-Players of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Matson is five games in and just recorded his fourth and fifth games in a row with three or more goals. He recorded a career-high in single-game goals with six in a road win over Lycoming College. He tied his career-high for single-game points in the same game, matching the early season seven points against Westminster College by adding an assist to his double hat-trick. He was also credited with the game-winning goal during the 18-10 win.
Matson added six points in a weekend home stomping of King's College by scoring four goals and adding two assists. Over 50% of Matson's shots were on goal during the week while he also picked up a Saxon career-high six ground balls and a career-high three caused turnovers as helped AU force the Monarchs to unsuccessfully clear the ball 50% of the time with 11 fails.
Matson was also named a Saxon of the Week alongside western equestrian's
Emma Suplicki (Holland, NY/Holland) and
Helene van der Merwe (Johannesburg, South Africa/Leeuwenhof Akademie).
He and the Saxons will next travel to face SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00pm.
