ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team placed two of its players on the Empire 8 Weekly Awards list as
Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) was named the Player of the Week and
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was named the Goalie of the Week on Monday, in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Monday's recognition was Cartwright's first and Kimiecik's seventh selections. Kimiecik is one of 12 Saxons to ever have more than five or more weekly selections in their careers, joining fellow men's lacrosse player,
Jake Lynch '18 and his five selections.
Kimiecik started his final collegiate season with a double-digit save performance. He helped the Saxons to a win to start the season. Kimiecik made 10 saves and picked up four ground balls in the season-opening, 11-7 win over SUNY Brockport.
Cartwright led the Saxons' offense as he totaled five points from a game-high four goals and one assist. He was the only player with over three points in the game as he also put five of his 10 shots on goal. Cartwright scored the game-winning goal just one minute after Brockport tied the game, 7-7 with 6:23 left in the game. His game-winning goal was assisted by
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) as it was his hat-trick goal on Saturday. He tacked on another goal just under two minutes to play to make it 11-7. Cartwright also picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover in the season-opening win.
The Saxons will next host Westminster College (PA) in a 7:00pm game at Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday, March 1 in non-conference action.
