ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team was able to claim a win over Fredonia but fell to University of Rochester in their home Tri-Meet.
The Saxons (2-2, 0-0 Empire 8) defeated the Blue Devils (1-4, 0-0 SUNYAC) by a score of 162-90 and lost to the Yellow Jackets (4-3, 0-0 UAA) by a score of 225-64 on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a long afternoon, but we performed very well." Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "For various reasons we were a little short handed on the women's side and it was great to pick up a victory against Fredonia. The Men kept a very close meet with Rochester, which hasn't really been the case over the years. I was really happy with the swims and the diving. We are in a great place and keep our eyes focused on February!"
The first points of the day were claimed by a second place finish in the 200-medley relay by Kamila Roman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck), Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central), Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor), and Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville).
Sarah Anderson won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.18. She also had a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.95. Kamila Roman was able to claim a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:27.97. She was also third place in the 100-yard butterfly.
Mia Spencer claimed third place in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM. Maureen Derry finished third place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:08.67.
The Saxons will next travel on the road for a meet at Hobart and William Smith College on Friday, November 17th at 6:00pm.
