Marshall Earns Seventh Career Empire 8 Weekly Award

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) has been named the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.

This is Marshall's seventh time on the E8 Weekly Awards list, making him one of only five Saxons to earn a spot on the list seven or more times since the creation of the conference awards. He is tied with Miasia Hillman '15 of the women's track & field program while just behind Seth Spicer '18 and current Saxon, Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) who both have eight. Spicer was a three-time All-American for the Saxon men's lacrosse program and Ion's eight awards are split between women's basketball and women's track & field. AU's top spot is held by softball's Jessica Wilcox '20, '21 who has 12 honors with one of those being from her semester on the women's basketball team as the Rookie of the Week.

Marshall earned three Empire 8 Rookie of the Week selections in the 2018-19 season and the rest have either been Player or Co-Player of the Week honors.

Marshall was instrumental in helping the Saxons go 1-1 on the weekend, including sweeping St. John Fisher for the first time since 2018-19. He scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds while assisting on four shots and blocking four attempts against the Cardinals. Marshall shot 8-of-11 from the floor and was 2-for-3 from the 3-point line while adding five free throws in Saturday's win. On Friday, against #23 Nazareth College, Marshall totaled 17 points while pulling down seven rebounds, stealing the ball twice and assisting on a basket. He went 6-of-9 from the floor and was a perfect, 3-for-3 from 3-point range.

Also on Monday, Marshall was named one of the Saxons of the Week for the ninth time in his career, being joined by women's track & field's Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute).

He and the Saxons will next head to Russell Sage College to face the Gators on Friday, February 3 at 7:30pm in Empire 8 action.
