ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team ended the dual-meet portion of its 2022-23 schedule with a 196-102 loss at Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons got off to a strong start as the 200-yard medley relay team took second place away with a time of 1:39.31, edging the Ithaca third place team time of 1:39.41. The team was made up of
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's), Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal) and
Alessandro Lagos Canales (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln).
Alessandro went on to take third place with a time of 1:51.80 in the 200-yard freestyle, just short of second place by 0.79 seconds. LaMastus picked up the first win of the day for AU, clocking a time of 54.14 in the 100-yard backstroke. Watkins added another Saxon win as he swam a 23.79 in the 50-yard butterfly with
Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) right behind in third place, clocking 24.19.
Ryan Way (Penfield, NY/Penfield) had two second place finishes on the diving boards, scoring 233.95 on the 1-meter board and 161.85 on the 3-meter.
LaMastus earned another victory as he swam a 24.93 in the 50-yard freestyle, beating the rest of the pool by over half a second. Fernando and Watkins went one-two in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming times of 53.48 and 54.16, respectively.
Fernando tacked on a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a 49.81, less than 0.70 away from first place. LaMastus ended his strong weekend with a third place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:27.44.
The Saxons will next turn towards their taper season before the Empire 8 Championships at Webster Aquatics Center, starting February 15.
