ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team finished fifth out of seven teams on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the 2022 Empire 8 Outdoor Championships hosted by Nazareth College.
The Saxons scored 30 team points to defeat Russell Sage College and Hartwick College on Saturday. "We had a big jump in our performances today as expected," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "We had a lot of exciting events on the track and both teams really focused and pushed through some unforeseen adversity in order to finish the way we did. We're excited for AARTFC's coming up."
The 4x100-meter relay team of
John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Steven Jackson (Culpeper, VA/Eastern View), Papa Dioum (New York, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) and
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) earned AU's only All-Empire 8 Finish on the men's side, combining for a second place and All-Empire 8 Second Team performance of 43.32. The time was beyond the AARTFC-qualifying mark as they finished behind Utica College to earn eight points.
The Saxons got another eight-point bump to their score when Peters finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05 for six points while
