ALFRED, NY – The Empire 8 has selected Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) as the Women's Field Athlete of the Week as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro on Monday.
 
Ion defeated 15 competitors in the women's triple jump during the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Saturday. She won the event with a distance of 10.96m. Four of her six attempts were beyond the All-Atlantic Regional qualifying distance of 10.80m.
 
The junior multi athlete was joined in the Empire 8 listings by fellow Saxons, Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) as the Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week and Arden Hatch (Orangevale, CA/St. Francis) as the Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
 
Ion and the Saxons will next compete in the two-day, Empire 8 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by neighboring Houghton College on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and May 7.
