GRANTHAM, PA – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished tied with three other schools for 13
th place on Saturday evening during the Messiah College Invitational as 22 total teams registered points.
Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) led the charge in points as she finished second in the shot put with a toss of 11.93m, earning eight points in the event. She added four points when she finished fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.82m.
"We performed very well across the board," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Our field athletes did great including the ones that just missed out on earning points, especially when you look at the level of competition that was there. Our runners also had a lot of great races with a lot of exciting finishes. We're very proud of how everyone competed and we are looking forward to pushing through the season."
Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) added to the team point total when she marked a distance of 10.50m in the triple jump for seventh place for two points.
Sara Badeau (Canaseraga, NY/Canaseraga Central) and
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) narrowly missed spots in the Top-8 of the high jump as they tied with four other athletes for ninth place at 1.41m.
Ashley Page (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) also neared a scoring finish as she finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 72.93 with the cutout being at 72.12.
Both
Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County) and
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had strong performances in the 5,000-meter run as Jablonski ran a 20:29.00 for 13
th place and Vallely ran a 20:46.70 for 15
th place.
McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) also ran in a close-paced race with a 15
th place in the 1,500-meter run. Hall ran a 5:13.46 as finishers from 11
th to 17
th place were all within four seconds of each other.
The Saxons will next compete at SUNY Brockport on Friday, April 15.
