Women's Track Finishes Tied for 13th at Messiah Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished tied with three other schools for 13th place on Saturday evening during the Messiah College Invitational as 22 total teams registered points.

Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) led the charge in points as she finished second in the shot put with a toss of 11.93m, earning eight points in the event. She added four points when she finished fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.82m.

"We performed very well across the board," Head Coach Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Our field athletes did great including the ones that just missed out on earning points, especially when you look at the level of competition that was there. Our runners also had a lot of great races with a lot of exciting finishes. We're very proud of how everyone competed and we are looking forward to pushing through the season."

Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) added to the team point total when she marked a distance of 10.50m in the triple jump for seventh place for two points.

Sara Badeau (Canaseraga, NY/Canaseraga Central) and Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) narrowly missed spots in the Top-8 of the high jump as they tied with four other athletes for ninth place at 1.41m. Ashley Page (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) also neared a scoring finish as she finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 72.93 with the cutout being at 72.12.

Both Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County) and Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had strong performances in the 5,000-meter run as Jablonski ran a 20:29.00 for 13th place and Vallely ran a 20:46.70 for 15th place. McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) also ran in a close-paced race with a 15th place in the 1,500-meter run.
