GRANTHAM, PA – The Alfred University men's track & field team finished 23rd out of the 23 teams that scored on Saturday at the Messiah College Invitational.
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) scored the lone team point as he finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.17. He defeated 40 other runners in the event. The 4x400-meter relay team of
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central), George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden), Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson) and Morrow narrowly missed a scoring finish as they combined for a time of 3:37.47, just short of eight place finisher, DeSales University's time of 3:36.27.
"Today's meet saw a lot of strong competition and we had multiple athletes rise up and compete against that," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "We had a lot of athletes compete in a full set of events and we give them a lot of credit for pushing through."
Eight Saxons competed in the 200-meter dash. Five of those athletes ran within the 23.00 to 24.00 time range, placing all the way from
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) in 11
th place with a time of 23.02, to
Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) and his 37
th place finishing time of 23.91, demonstrating how close the competition was on Saturday. Peters also finished 10
th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21. He missed out on finals but his prelim time would have finished eighth in the finals as eighth place ran a time of 11.30.
The Saxons will next compete at SUNY Brockport on Friday, April 15.
