ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team competed in the large-volumed indoor Ithaca Invite on Saturday.
The only Saxons to have Top-10 finishes were the three relay teams, competing in the distance medley, 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter events. "We saw a lot of strong competition today as there were a lot of schools. There were schools from New York, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and we're happy with how we competed," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Our relay teams in the 4x200 and 4x400 had larger fields of competition and it was nice to see them place the way that they did. Our DMR was just short of winning the event, so that was very exciting to watch."
The distance medley relay team of
Kyle Jenkins (Marcellus, NY/West Genesee), Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden), Chris Mayo (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) and
Max Rassilla (Moraga, CA/Midland) were just over three seconds away from defeating the team from St. Lawrence University as the Saints ran a time of 11:15.52 while the Saxons were just behind with an 11:18.65.
The next top finish for AU was the 4x200-meter relay of
John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Papa Dioum (New York, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy), Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson) and
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central). They ran a 1:38.06 to take seventh just ahead of the B-Team from Ithaca. The 4x400-meter relay team of
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden), Kerr, Mayo and Trimboli rounded out the day with a 10
th place finishing time of 3:38.39.
The Saxons will next head back to Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, February 11 for a 4:00pm meet.
