UTICA, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team completed the final day of the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships in sixth place on Saturday at Utica University.
The Saxons finished with 21 team points, defeating Hartwick College.
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) was the only Saxon to claim a spot on the All-Empire 8 listings as he won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.83, edging out the second place time of 2:02.32. He started the race in third place behind Nazareth runners before making his move to get ahead of the pack in his final two laps.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mecca,
Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson), Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) and
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) earned four points as they finishing fourth with a time of 3:34.29, winning their heat with ease over Russell Sage College and Hartwick College.
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) earned a spot on the podium in the 60-meter dash finals, running a time of 7.26 to take sixth.
The Saxons will next look towards beginning their outdoor season.
