ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team competed in a large indoor invitational on Friday evening, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Saxons were led by the individual efforts of
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) and
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton). "Competing in this caliber of a meet is always good for our athletes to see, not just because of the overall size of the field of competitors, but competing against Division I teams is always a helpful experience for us," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Steve and Neil had great races as well as our 4x400 relay team."
Peters got things started with the 60-meter dash. He qualified for the finals with a time of 7.43, earning him the seventh seed going into the final race. Peters upped his time to 7.36 for sixth place, just 0.003 seconds away from fifth place.
Later in the meet, Morrow took the top finish of the day for AU, earning fifth place as he ran a 53.39 in one of the most electrifying finishes a heat has seen in the 400-meter dash. His time edged out the fourth place time from Oswego State of 53.53, a 53.73 time from RIT and another RIT time of 53.74. Morrow and those runners all competed in the second heat with the Saxon winning the heat and finishing fifth in the event.
The 4x400-meter relay team from AU finished eighth with a time of 3:42.65, being nudged out of seventh place by the team from Ithaca College and their time of 3:42.45.
The Saxons will have one more regular season indoor meet before heading to Utica College for the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 25 and 26. The last meet will be held at Nazareth College on Friday, February 18.
