ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team faced Nazareth College on Friday evening in Empire 8 action but fell, 176-51 to the defending conference champions in the McLane Natatorium.
The Saxons had a slew of second place finishes to highlight Friday's meet. The 200-yard medley relay team of
Cecilia Saltysiak (Bay Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island), Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central), Kamila Roman and
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) got things started with a time of 1:59.92. Roman went on to take second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.23 as the first individual second place finish. She went on to take silver in the 100-yard butterfly, being edged out of first place by less than half a second, swimming a 1:01.57 compared to a 1:01.09 by Nazareth's
Abbie Santos.
"It was a great night in the pool! We had a good amount of in season bests both in swimming and diving and it is quite early in the season," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "As a coach, I really like what I am seeing from everyone, in the water and on the deck."
Anderson got the next individual second place finish as she raced to a 58.94 finish in the 100-freestyle.
Alexandra Simmons (Danbury, CT/Danbury) earned second place in the 500-yard freestyle near the end of the meet on Friday, clocking in a 5:59.02.
The Saxons will next head to University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Thursday, November 3 for a 5:00pm dual meet.
