ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team finished sixth out of six teams competing at the Rochester Institute of Technology Indoor Meet on Friday evening.
The Saxons were led by the combined efforts of
Steven Jackson (Culpeper, VA/Eastern View) and
Papa Dioum (New York, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) in the 60-meter dash. Jackson ran a 7.39 to take second place while Dioum ran a 7.46 for third, combining for 14 points. Both ran faster times in the finals than their qualifying times in the prelims as Jackson entered with a fifth place time of 7.49 and Dioum was sitting at seventh with a time of 7.51.
"It was great to have more of our team back from their study abroad opportunities," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Watching Loso [Jackson] and Papa run strong preliminary races and then improving on their times in the finals to have finishes like that was very exciting. Overall, we had a great team output from the sprints to our distance track events and from our throws and jumps."
Dioum tacked on another two points to his evening as he finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.68, just behind teammate,
John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) who ran a 24.60 to finish sixth.
Kyle Jenkins (Marcellus, NY/West Genesee) had the next top finish on the track with a fourth place finish in the 1,000-meter run, clocking in a time of 2:46.13.
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) ran a 53.84 in the 400-meter dash for seventh place while both
Grant Baldwin (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) and
Max Rasilla (Moraga, CA/Midland) both claimed eighth place finishes to round out the top places for AU. Baldwin ran a 2:15.07 in the 800-meter run and Rasilla ran a 4:48.95 in the mile.
In the field events,
Kalum Holbrook (Atlanta, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) had the top finish as he jumped a distance of 5.69m in the long jump for fifth place. He then took seventh in the triple jump with a top mark of 11.70m.
Andrew Parnapy (Byron, NY/Byron-Bergen) closed out the top finishes for Alfred University with a toss of 11.81m in the weight throw, good enough for sixth place.
