HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team had three relay teams earn Top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Houghton Highlander Invitational.
Both of the 4x800-meter relay teams made the Top-10 as the team composed of
Kyle Jenkins (Marcellus, NY/West Genesee), Grant Baldwin (Poughquag, NY/Arlington), Irving Sesmas (Apollo, GA/Kiski Area) and
Gavin Wilbert (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had the top finish of seventh place with a time of 9:10.83. The second team of
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden), Kyle Full (Akron, NY/Akron), Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson) and
Kevin Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) followed in 10
th place with a time of 9:22.41.
"We were missing some of our Saxons today, but those who were able to make the trip, really gave it their all and put up some great times," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "The relays worked very nicely together and had strong finishes across the board. We also saw a lot of development in some of our individual performances and we're quite happy with our first meet of 2022."
The 4x200-meter relay team of
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central), John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Steven Jackson (Culpeper, VA/Eastern View) and
Hans Goodnow (Phoenix, NY/John C. Birdlebough) won their race with a time of 1:42.69 but ended the event as the only team competing as the team from Fredonia did not finish, as the third leg never gave a handoff.
Morrow had a Top-10 finish on the track as an individual, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:09.11 in the 800-meter run, edging the top runner from Division I St. Bonaventure University, Darion Gregory by 0.11 seconds. Morrow's time was good enough for ninth place.
Kalum Holbrook (Atlanta, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) rounded out the top finishes for the Saxons on Saturday as he hopped-skipped-jumped to a distance of 11.05m in the triple jump on his first attempt to take ninth place.
The Saxons will next be back in action on Friday, January 28 when they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology.
