ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team honored their senior class prior to completing their final home dual meet of the season against Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at the McLane Center. The Saxons (3-6, 1-2 Empire 8) came up short against the Bombers (7-1), losing by a score of 180-103.
"The work we have done over the past three weeks was evident today," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "We swam and dove tired, but did surprisingly well; I thought we had a very solid effort from this team today! I know that we will have some great things happening in the next month as we gear up for championships."
The combined efforts of
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne),
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's),
Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal), and
Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) in the 200-yard medley resulted in second place with a time of 1:39.03. Lamastus later won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.09, while Terrazas finished in first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.80. Watkins appeared in the 50-yard freestyle for Alfred University, coming in second place with a time of 22.34.
Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) secured first place for AU in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.38. Lagos also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.51. He later finished in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.07.
The Saxons continued to give their best effort, as
Justin Jarmer (Flagstaff, AZ/Northland Preparatory Academy) came in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.16.
Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) came in second place for AU in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.27.
Jordan Fixsen (Fairport, NY/Penfield) finished in third place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.51.
Alfred University will next appear at the Empire 8 Championships, which are scheduled to begin on February 16
th.
