ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team fell on the road to Empire 8 foe, Hartwick College, 169-71 on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons, closed out a three-meet week that including two long road trips and a home win over Utica College. They began the week with a trip to Division II Le Moyne College on Tuesday before ending the week with the trip to Oneonta, NY.
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) picked up the first win for the Saxons as she won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.21, edging Hartwick's
Paige Eaton and her time of 27.32. She followed that event with a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.80, just behind teammate,
Caitlin Behr (Long Beach Island, NJ/Southern Regional) and her second place time of 1:01.93. Behr narrowly missed first place as Hartwick's
Meghan Geczy clocked a 1:01.28.
"Having come off of a couple other meets this week, with one being yesterday; I was pretty impressed with the effort and results shown today," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "They have been working hard and continue to impress me with their attitude and resolve. As we continue to deal with some holes in our lineups, it is great from a coaching perspective to see people step up and fill in where they can. This coming week, we will regroup, get ready for our senior meet next weekend, and then get ready for final preparations for our championship meet!"
Behr picked up a second silver finish as she swam a 1:13.25 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Saxons will next host Ithaca College on Saturday, January 22 at 1:00pm in the McLane Natatorium as they will recognize the careers of their seniors from both the men's and women's programs, competing in their final intercollegiate meet in Alfred.
