ROCHESTER, NY -- The men's 4x800-meter relay team took home the top finish for the Saxons after day one of the Empire 8 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at St. John Fisher College.
The team of
Chris Mayo (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott), Tim Mayo (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott), Kyle Jenkins (Marcellus, NY/West Genesee) and
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) ran a time of 8:34.96 to earn fourth place and four team points on Friday.
Kyle Full (Akron, NY/Akron) ran a 10:39.48, edging out a Houghton College runner's time of 10:40.28 to earn sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and one team point as AU is in sixth place.
"We saw some personal bests today despite it being so cold and rainy and we will make up a lot of ground in the team scores tomorrow," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Kyle's race in the steeplechase got our scoring going but the majority of our men's events today were either qualifying events or events that we do not have a lot of depth at. Plus, the pole vault was pushed back until tomorrow so we should see more Saxons on the track and in field events and we are really excited to see how we end up."
