ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team had its first outdoor meet since last year's Spring Break trip to Coastal Carolina as the Saxons competed on the other side of the valley at Alfred State College on Friday evening.
Â
Blake Angel (Marysville, OH/Marysville Early College) had the top finish of the day for Alfred University as he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.38. With Angel's hurdle finish,
Rashid Abuelmaali (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.54, despite falling on the last hurdle as he looked for a close win in the event.
Â
"I'm very proud of both teams today in the home meet with Alfred State," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "We got a lot of our athletes back for the outdoor season like Rashid and Blake and we were able to see what some of our new athletes can do. We're really excited for the meets going forward as we get our distance runners back as they competed well in today's Empire 8 Championships over in Houghton."
Â
The next top Saxon finish was
Sean Foley (Ransomville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) as he tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 3.65m.
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88 and in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.75 on Friday.
Â
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) rounded out the top finishes in his first collegiate meet with a sixth place vault of 6.44m in the long jump.
Â
The Saxons will next head to St. John Fisher College on Saturday, April 24.
