ALFRED, NY – The Empire 8 selected Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville) of the Alfred University women's track & field team as the E8 Women's Field Athlete of the Week as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro on Monday afternoon.
 
Sophomore Ion did a bit of it all on Friday's first outdoor meet of the season as she placed in the Top-5 in each of her four events. She placed third in the shot put with a toss of 10.21m while simultaneously taking third in the high jump with a height of 1.50m. Ion then pick up fifth place finishes in the javelin with a throw of 21.04m and in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.63 seconds.
 
Ion and fellow multi athlete, Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) will next travel to The College at Brockport on Sunday, April 18 for a 10:00am start of the Brockport Multis as both will compete in the heptathlon. Day two of the competition will be the flowing day, starting at noon.
 
Ion was joined on Monday by the announcement of softball's Ashley Lugo (Hesperia, CA/Oak Hills) earning Player of the Week and Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) earning Pitcher of the Week, men's lacrosse's Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) earning Goalie of the Week and women's lacrosse's Brenna Turner (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) earning Player of the Week.
