ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team had its first competition with a trip to Nazareth College's Golisano Training Center on Saturday morning.

Chris Mayo (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) had the most Top-10 finishes for the Saxons with his individual sixth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.18 and a second place finish in the distance medley relay. Chris teamed with
Kyle Jenkins (Marcellus, NY/West Genesee), his brother
Tim Mayo (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) and
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) to combine for a time of 11:48.12.

The top individual performance was that of first-year
Kevin Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford). Flint ran a time of 10:41.89 for fifth place in the 3,000-meter run as he was narrowly edged by a junior from St. John Fisher College with a time of 10:40.92.
Anthony Brandl (Akron, NY/Akron) followed Flint in sixth place with a finish of 11:36.39.

Mecca rounded out the top finishes with a 54.06 time in the 400-meter dash.

"Excited about finally having the teams compete again. The men missed beating out Sage with some impressive performances," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "[We're] ready to see both teams respond to next week's competition as we head into the Empire 8 Championships."

The Saxons will next travel to Houghton College on Saturday, March 13 for an indoor meet before the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships, back at Nazareth College on March 20.
