ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team defeated University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Friday evening in the McLane Natatorium, 95-45.
Pitt-Bradford competed with a small roster size, defaulting AU a bevy of uncontested wins and sweeps in events. The first contested win for AU came in the 50-yard freestyle as
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) won with a time of 27.67 with
Eden Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) following in third place.
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) competed against one swimmer in the 200-yard individual medley, winning with a time of 2:32.86.
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell) had no competition in the diving events but nearly broke her own 1-meter, six-dive record of 230.75, scoring 228.90.
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) and
Erika Purdy (Syracuse, NY/Cicero North) went one-two in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming 1:01.01 and 1:02.96, respectively.
Shaelyn McClaughry (Somerville, NJ/Somerville), Rachel Flaherty (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) and Anderson swept the top three spots of the 100-yard backstroke with McClaughry leading with the finish of 1:10.81.
All of the Saxon events after the 100-back were exhibition races along with the 3-meter diving.
The Saxons will next compete in a tri-meet against Fredonia and the host institution, University of Rochester on Saturday, November 13 at noon.
