ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2021-22 season with a dual meet loss to Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in the McLane Natatorium, 201-77.
Â
The Saxons were led by
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell) as she finished second overall on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, ultimately earning first place points on the 3-meter due to RIT pulling their divers out of point-scoring range with exhibition designations. She scored 195.80 on the 1-meter board and then hit a personal best for season starts on the 3-meter with a score of 225.40. "It was great to get back into a meet scenario with some normal training under our belts," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "We were clearly a bit rusty today and have some work to do, but there is a great base to work off of. We are very excited for what the rest of the season holds for us."
Â
Shaelyn McClaughry (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) was the only other Saxon to earn a second place finish, overall as she picked up an exhibition win in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.44.
Â
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) and
Rachel Flaherty (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) both picked up third place finishes in individual events. Spencer swam a 2:43.41 in the 200-yard breaststroke and Flaherty finished with a 2:35.56 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
