ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team ended a three-meet week with a 104-164 loss to Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Â
The Saxons were led by
Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) as she picked up two individual wins, an individual second place and a second place in a relay. Serotta won both backstroke events as she swam a 1:03.14 in the 100-yard and a 2:15.88 in the 200-yard. Although she is not typically a butterfly swimmer, she competed in the 100-yard butterfly and finished second with a time of 1:03.80, being edged by the Hartwick first place finisher's 1:02.09.
Â
Serotta swam the backstroke leg in the 200-yard medley relay along with
Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South), Cassidy Jeche (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) as the group combined for a time of 1:59.61, missing first place by less than four seconds.
Â
"Having three meets this week has been rough, and caught up with a lot of the student-athletes," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "Results were not ideal, but we had some great swims, especially our backstroke. Getting wins on the boards was nice too! We can look back at what we put into this over the past two weeks and be excited for the next month!"
Â
Guariglia was the only other Saxon swimmer to pick up second place finishes as she did so in both breaststroke events. She swam a 1:15.72 in the 100 as she was edged by less than two seconds and she earned a 2:43.79 in the 200, being out-touched by just over two seconds.
Â
Courtney Sisson (Olean, NY/Olean) picked up a pair of diving wins as she competed uncontested on the boards, scoring 133.15 in both sessions.
Â
The Saxons will next host Ithaca College in the final home meet and final dual meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m. in the McLane Natatorium.
