ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team defeated Empire 8 foe, Utica College on Friday afternoon, 118-53 in the McLane Center Natatorium.

The Saxons won every event on Friday but exhibitioned later events of the meet. "The second meet of the week went well, they looked much more responsive and the scores and times reflected it," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "One more tomorrow, and hopefully the trend continues with some faster swimming and better diving!"

The men had three relay teams in both the 200 medley and 200 free in which they went one-two-three in both.

Ian Evans (Hornell, NY/Hornell) picked up the first win of the day with an 11:51.44 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington), Justin Jarmer (Flagstaff, AZ/Northland Preparatory Academy) and
Andrew Yates (Naples, NY/Naples) swept the 200 free with Volaski swimming a 1:54.53 to lead the way.

Andy Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), Luke Foery (York, PA/West York), Justin Chadima (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and
Fynn Vossler (Livonia, NY/Livonia) took all four top spots in the 50-yard freestyle as Chadima and Vossler tied with times of 24.43 while Edmister swam a 22.81 and Foery swam a 23.50.
Bryan Rafoth (Rochester, NY/Eastridge), Gregory Simonian (Grand Island, NY/Canisius) and
Kyle McGlynn (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) all had times about the Utica swimmers but had to be exhibitioned in the results.

Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean), Noah Koltenuk (Danville, PA/Danville Area) and
Tyler Kemmet (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) swept the 200-yard individual medley as Brown had a 2:08.60 finish.
Logan Cross (Olean, NY/Olean) won both diving events as he scored a 254.90 on the 1-meter and a 212.68 (exhibition) on the 3-meter.

Vincent Tamplain (Luling, LA/Hahnville) and Volaski went one-two in the 100 butterfly as Tamplain swam a 53.67. Jarmer, Vossler and Foery all had times faster than the one Utica swimmer.

The Saxons had a complete sweep of the 100-yard freestyle with Edmister swimming a 49.75 followed by Rafoth, Chadima and
Andrew Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South).

Evans, McGlynn and
Andrew Parr (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) took the top three places in the 100-yard backstroke with Evans finishing with a 1:05.95. Yates had the top time in the 500 free as he swam a 5:35.24 while
R.J. Zellner (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) followed with a 5:38.62. Brown and Kemmet were both exhibitioned in the 100 breaststroke as they had the top two times of 1:04.32 and 1:05.93, respectively.

The Saxons will next travel to Hartwick College on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m.
