BROCKPORT, NY - The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team continued their hot start to the season with a 180-106 win over Brockport on Saturday.
"We started strong out of the gate again, with pool records in the 200-medley relay as well as the 1000 free – both of which were over 33 years old," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "A lot of great swims highlighted with a school record in the 100 IM, which we don't do often, by Youssef Amr."
The relay efforts of
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School),
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Seif Asaad (Cairo, Egypt/Stanford) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) in the 200-yard medley relay resulted in a pool record time of 1:35.17.
Abdallatif enjoyed a historic afternoon with the Saxons, setting a program record with a time of 52.13 in the 100-yard IM. Abdallatif additionally set the Brockport pool record with a time of 49.71 in the 100-yard backstroke for Alfred University.
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) finished with the win and the Brockport pool record with a time of 1,000-yard freestyle for AU. The first-yard additionally picked up wins in the 100-yard butterfly (52.38) and 500-yard freestyle (4:45.44).
Gonzalez and Striker each finished the afternoon with a pair of individual wins for the Saxons. Gonzalez was dominant in the breaststroke events, winning the 50-yard event with a time of 27.35 and the 100-yard event with a time of 59.47. Striker excelled in the freestyle for the Saxons, winning the 100-yard event with a time of 48.19 and the 200-yard event with a finishing time of 1:48.82.
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) performed well for Alfred University, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.86. Drappatz additionally finished in second in the 100-yard freestyle, just behind Striker.
Drappatz was later joined alongside Ayala, Amr and Striker for a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:27.06.
Alfred University will next travel to compete at Hobart next Saturday at 4:00 PM.
