ALFRED, NY -- For the second week in a row, junior jumper
Danielle Perry (Leicester, NY/York Central) of the Alfred University women's track & field team earned the Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Perry broke her own school record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.07m (36'-3.8") on Saturday at the Messiah College Invitational. The mark not only broke the school record but also won the event. She supplemented her triple jump, school record win with a fifth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.88m. The distance also qualified her for the All-Atlantic Regional Championships.
Last week, Perry was joined by softball's
Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) in the Empire 8 Weekly Awards. This week, Perry is the lone selection from the E8 but is also a Saxon of the Week alongside of men's lacrosse's
Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) who also broke multiple school records and Empire 8 records on the week.
Perry and the Saxons will next co-host the Alfred Invitational at Alfred State College on Tuesday, April 15 at 4PM.
