ALFRED, NY -- Senior Megan Alper (Belmont, MA/Belmont) of the Alfred University women's track & field team was named the Empire 8 Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.

Alper picked up an individual win for the Saxons and had two third place finishes in the season-opener for Alfred University at the Houghton College December Classic. She won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.21 while picking up a third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.18. She then teamed with Krissy Roberts (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango), Olivia Chamberlin (Holland, NY/Holland) and Ashley Page (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) to run a 1:57.24 in the 4x200-meter relay to finish third on Friday.

Alper was also named a Saxon of the Week on Monday along with men's track & field's Saul McCoy (Queens Village, NY/Bayside).
