Saif Alseyofi (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/AQS) of the Alfred University men's soccer team was named the Empire 8 Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro on Monday afternoon.
Alseyofi produced a career-high offensive performance on Saturday in a crucial, come-from-behind, Empire 8 win over Utica College. He scored both the Saxons' goals after starting the match off with a 0-1 deficit. Both of his goals were off of
Zachary Gloskin (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) corner kicks and both were headers, making it a career-high two goals and four points for the first-year student-athlete. He took a career-high seven shots with a career-high five shots on goal as he played 63 minutes. His second goal of the game went down in the box score as the game-winning goal and is his second of his career at Alfred University, having scored the game-winning goal against Hartwick College at the start of October.
Alseyofi was joined by football's
James Jones III (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) as the Saxon members on the Empire 8 Weekly Awards list. Jones was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. Alseyofi and women's soccer's
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) were the Saxons of the Week.
Alseyofi and the Saxons will next host non-conference, SUNYAC powerhouse, Buffalo State on Tuesday, October 29 for a 7 p.m. match start at Yunevich Stadium. They will then travel to face St. John Fisher College on Saturday, November 2 for a 4 p.m. start.
