ALFRED, NY -- Sophomore defender, Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) was named the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Weber had a dominant week, defensively. He led the Saxons in ground balls and caused turnovers during Alfred University's 1-1 week. Weber had an outstanding, 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers against Elmira College in the Saxons' Empire 8 Conference-opening win. Earlier in the week, he had eight ground balls and five caused turnovers against Oswego State. In both games, Weber took one shot, put it on goal and behind the goalie as he tallied his first two goals of the season. He also was credited with an assist in both matches. During his first season as a Saxon, Weber totaled two goals and one assist as he now stands above his previous season. He also had a total of 33 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers while he now sits at 42 and 26, respectively, en route to breaking all of his season marks.

Weber also was named one of the Saxons of the Week along with women's track & field's Megan Alper (Belmont,MA/Belmont). This is Weber's first Empire 8 weekly recognition and first Saxon of the Week honor.

Weber and the Saxons will next go on a three-game homestand as they host SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, March 28 at 4PM, Hartwick College in Empire 8 action on Saturday, March 31 at 1PM and St. John Fisher College on Saturday, April 7 at 1PM as well. All games are at Yunevich Stadium and the Fisher game is also the Alfred University Men's Lacrosse Alumni Game.
